Mathematics in Education and Industry (MEI) seeks a Deputy Chief Executive

MEI is an independent charity committed to improving mathematics education. MEI has expertise in curriculum development, in developing teaching and learning resources for teachers and students, and in providing professional development for teachers. Any income generated through MEI's work is used to support the teaching and learning of mathematics. MEI's vision is to make a real difference to people's lives by improving the quality of mathematics education and learning.

The Deputy Chief Executive is a new role, created as a result of the significant expansion of MEI's work. The Deputy Chief Executive will support the Chief Executive in the strategic and operational leadership of MEI, deputising for the Chief Executive and taking responsibility for day-to-day operational leadership.

The salary will be at a competitive rate, depending on skills and experience.

Mathematics in Education and Industry (MEI) seeks a Finance Manager to oversee the effective provision of finance administration to MEI

MEI is a charity, committed to improving mathematics education for all. It is a leading curriculum development body for mathematics, a major provider of professional development for teachers and specialised tuition for students, and has developed extensive resources to support the teaching and learning of mathematics. MEI also plays a leading role in two government-funded programmes to support mathematics education.

MEI is seeking an experienced finance manager to contribute to the effective provision of finance and operational support to MEI, and provide support to the Finance and Administration business stream leader including deputising when necessary. The job holder will be responsible for the accounting function, the provision of monthly accounts and Management Information and reporting, and the maintenance of an effective system of internal control. The role will include line management of the finance team, attendance at external meetings and conferences and liaison with regional fund holders. The successful applicant will also be expected to liaise with insurers and legal representatives, contractors and sub-contractors, and with MEI’s academic staff to support project management.

The post is offered initially until 31 August 2019. The salary is circa £40 000, subject to experience.

Mathematics in Education and Industry (MEI) seeks a Senior Software Developer

Job description

This position is to oversee all software and website development in MEI, to manage its team of developers and to contribute to development. This includes responsibility for all of MEI’s websites and for the continued development of software to support the collection, storage and use of data. It includes responsibility to maintain a high level of website service delivery, to work to W3 best practice methods and to ensure data security.

The role will involve working closely with MEI colleagues involved in all strands of MEI’s work.

MEI is a leading independent curriculum development body for mathematics and a major provider of mathematics CPD.  MEI also plays a leading role in two government-funded programmes to support mathematics education. The applicant will become an important member of the MEI team.  

Outline of the main aspects of the role

  • Managing MEI’s software and web development team of around 4 FTEs, this includes allocating resources within the team to various MEI projects as appropriate and liaising with colleagues in all strands of MEI’s work to understand and specify all development requirements
  • Scheduling development work according to priorities and making sure it is carried out efficiently.
  • Continuing an on-going project to collect, store and manage MEI’s data more effectively.
  • Managing the testing, roll out and any internal training associated with development work
  • Ensuring MEI’s websites are up-to-date, maintained and meet the requirements of MEI.
  • Chairing MEI’s IT group.
  • Contribution to software and website development

The person appointed to the post will need to be flexible and the exact nature of the role will take account of the experience and strengths of the successful applicant.

The role may be partly home-based but it is expected that some proportion will be office-based, in MEI’s offices in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.

MEI has managed the national Further Mathematics Support Programme (FMSP) and its predecessor, the Further Mathematics Network, since 2005, and has recently been awarded the contract by the DfE to run the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (AMSP).

The AMSP is a government funded project which aims to increase participation in A level Mathematics, A level Further Mathematics and Core Maths. It will support schools and colleges throughout England, delivering professional development for teachers and providing enrichment and tuition for students.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an exceptional team. The role will involve assisting with the development of AMSP support for the teaching of AS/A level Maths and Further Maths, which will include coordinating a programme of teacher professional development, contributing to the delivery of professional development, writing of teaching materials, and promoting the uptake of level 3 mathematics.  

The contract will commence on 1 Sept 2018 and runs until 30 April 2020 in the first instance, although there may be opportunities for extension, subject to continued government funding.

Salary will be in the range £45000 to £50000, depending on skills and experience.

This is a full time post but applications from individuals seeking part time, or flexible working arrangements, are welcome. Secondments from teaching posts on a part-time basis will also be considered.

The post is home-based but will involve frequent travel nationally.

The AMSP is a government funded project which aims to increase participation in A level Mathematics, A level Further Mathematics and Core Maths. It will support schools and colleges throughout England, delivering professional development for teachers and providing enrichment and tuition for students.

This will include developing the AMSP’s strategy, sharing effective practice relating to how gender affects post-16 choices and working across the AMSP team and with key stakeholders to disseminate relevant information to students, parents, teachers and school leaders.
