OCR Core Maths Promotional Event to introduce two newly accredited OCR(MEI) Core Maths qualifications

Posted: 13/10/2014

We are pleased to confirm that Level 3 Certificate in Quantitative Reasoning (MEI) and Level 3 Certificate in Quantitative Problem Solving (MEI) qualifications are accredited for teaching from 2015, and pending DfE approval as Core Maths qualifications.

OCR and Mathematics in Education and Industry (MEI) have jointly developed two new qualifications designed to meet the Core Maths requirements: Level 3 Certificate in Quantitative Reasoning (MEI) and Level 3 Certificate in Quantitative Problem Solving (MEI); each of them incorporates the content of the Introduction to Quantitative Methods and develops it further to make a qualification intended for students who have at least grade C in GCSE Mathematics and who would benefit from continuing with some mathematics but who do not need or want to do AS or A level Mathematics. These qualifications will be particularly useful for students studying subjects such as geography, business, chemistry, biology and sociology.

  • The first component of both of these qualifications can be supported using resources developed for Introduction to Quantitative Methods, available from MEI.
  • Critical Maths resources are freely available from MEI
  • A growing set of resources for Core Maths is also available from MEI .
  • Students will be encouraged to tackle problems in realistic contexts that are relevant to their other subjects.

OCR Core Maths Promotional Event

To help you understand the two proposed Core Maths qualifications, OCR invites you to a launch event at which speakers from OCR and MEI will introduce these qualifications, explain the different approaches to problem solving and statistics that they offer, outline the support available and their future plans. This event will take place on Wednesday 3 December in London, with 60 places available to teachers.

This course is free and includes a set of essential course materials. Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided at the course.
