Maths Teacher Training Scholarships application deadline 1 December

Posted: 25/11/2014

Thinking about teaching maths as a career and are applying for Initial Teacher Training starting next September? Did you know that you can also apply for a Scholarship worth £25,000 instead of the bursary payment?

You could receive:

  • A prestigious award recognising your potential to be an inspirational teacher
  • £25,000 tax free paid in instalments in your training year (replacing any bursary entitlement)
  • Membership of a community enabling Scholars to share experiences and provide peer support
  • Access to independent specialist advice and support
  • Free membership for two years of professional and subject associations (including MEI)
  • Free access to resources to support your teaching and learning (including MEI's Integral resources)
  • A 'leg up' when looking for your first job – the Scholarship looks great on your CV

So you should apply if you:

  • Already have, or are intending to apply for unsalaried secondary maths teacher training in England starting in September 2015
  • Have, or are expecting to achieve, a 1st or 2.1 (or post graduate degree) in a maths related subject

or

  • A degree with a strong maths content e.g. Engineering. If you have or expect to achieve a 2.2 then you should still apply if you have been working in a mathematical environment or can demonstrate experience of teaching or working with young people, for example you may have completed an education module on your degree

So if you are applying for maths teacher training why not aim to get the 'icing on the cake' as well. After all approximately 33% of those applying are successful – do the maths.....

See http://www.ima.org.uk/careers/teacher_scholarships.cfm.html for more information but don’t delay as the first application round closes on 1st December
