MEI has recently produced a free guide to support the teaching of problem solving in GCSE and A level Mathematics. Accompanying resources, such as posters and problem resources, which can all be adapted for your use in the classroom, will also soon be available.
Given the increased emphasis on problem solving in the curriculum, and the rigorousness with which it will be assessed, it is important that teachers are able to develop their student’s ability to solve these kinds of questions. This guide, and the adaptable materials that accompany it, should serve as a starting point for teachers to begin building their confidence with effective strategies and techniques for developing mathematical problem solving skills.
