This year the FMSP poster competition was aimed at promoting Further Mathematics to students in year 10 and 11. The theme of the competition was “Our favourite thing about Further Mathematics is…” and was open to further mathematicians in schools and colleges. There were two winning entries, which complemented each other. Joseph Lindridge, a student from Andover Sixth Form College, designed an informative and interesting poster about the origins and uses of complex numbers. Rebecca Woods and Catalina Bodrug, two students from the Stowe School , created an inspiring poster promoting the many benefits of studying Further Mathematics.
The winners, with their families, attended a prize giving presentation at Rolls-Royce’s Learning and Development Centre in Derby, on 9th July 2012. Nicola Swaney, Education Outreach Officer at Rolls-Royce made a short presentation about the company, their education programme and career opportunities. This was followed by a tour of the Rolls-Royce Heritage Exhibition. The winning poster designs have been printed and will be sent to all FMSP registered schools at the start of the Autumn Term.
