Michael Gove requests help from MEI "in giving more young people the opportunity to acquire the mathematical skills to succeed."

MEI (Mathematics in Education and Industry) was included in a recent letter from Michael Gove to a number of bodies and royal societies about improving mathematics skills for 16-18 year-olds: "Your organisation has the capacity to help us meet the ambition to have a majority of 16-18 year-olds studying maths by 2020."

The Secretary of State for Education also mentioned the government's recent financial support for MEI and the FMSP: "We have expanded the Further Maths Support Programme so that nearly 70 per cent of state schools offer the subject at A level, and we have funded MEl (Mathematics in Education and Industry) to work with Fields medallist Sir Tim Gowers to develop an innovative post-16 maths course."
