Desmos has always been a very powerful tool for promoting mathematical learning and has been used for years in classrooms to support students with developing mathematical connections.
Many teachers will be familiar with the Desmos graphing calculator; however, the classroom activities are a particularly useful tool in the current climate, where teachers now need to deliver meaningful lessons via distance learning. They are being used by teachers all over the world to create personalised lessons that contain dynamic content, collect responses from every student and can be accessed both live and asynchronously by a class.
To support teachers with learning how to utilise this aspect of the Desmos site, MEI has created three videos to explain how to use, create and personalise classroom activities, as well as linking existing activities to the student tasks on our Desmos page. We have also worked with Desmos to collate UK collections of activities for both GCSE and A level that can be viewed directly from their website. Links to the videos and the collections can be found on the MEI Desmos page.
In addition to this work, we are currently in the process of creating a new AMSP On Demand Professional Development (ODPD) course for Desmos that teachers can complete remotely. The course will be listed on the AMSP Events page as soon as the course is available.
