Desmos art competition for Maths Week England 2021

We’re once again running our popular Desmos art competition for Maths Week England, which runs from 8-12 November 2021.

This year’s theme is ‘The world around us’.

There will be a fantastic prize for each category, kindly donated by Desmos:

  • School years 5-6 (ages 9-11)
  • School years 7-9 (ages 11-14)
  • School years 10-11 (ages 14-16)
  • School years 12-13 (ages 16-18)

What’s involved?

Students use the dynamic graphing tool Desmos to create art. If you’re not sure how to do this, we have resources, including written instructions and demonstration videos, to help.

How to enter

Teachers should email a link to each student’s creation, together with the name of the school and the student’s year, to: [email protected], with the subject line MEI Desmos Maths Art Competition.

The deadline for submissions is Friday 19 November 2021.

We also encourage you to share students’ entries on Twitter, tagging @MEIMaths hashtag #MathsWeekEngland.

Please ensure there is no identifiable student information shared without consent.

Entries will be judged on:

  • Creativity & originality
  • Use of the maths you know
  • Interpretation of the theme

Examples of entries will be showcased on our website.
