mA*ths and Further mA*ths Programme evaluation reports

This work has been evaluated by FFT Education Datalab and CfEY.

Data from the first three cohorts shows that participants achieved half a grade higher at A level than their peers, and were more likely to achieve a grade A or A* in A level Mathematics or Further Mathematics.

The mA*ths and Further mA*ths Programme was developed in partnership with Imperial College London. After benefitting hundreds of A level students, the programme was expanded to the University of Manchester.

The project has been running since 2020, and is described by funders The Hg Foundation as ‘a pioneering and scalable approach to boosting achievement in A level Further Mathematics for state school students aged 17/18’. It supports students from disadvantaged backgrounds to help them to achieve A and A* grades at A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, and to progress to study maths at degree level.

In 2024, FFT Education Datalab published two reports evaluating the programmes:

Both reports highlight the impact on those students participating in the programme, and point to a positive impact on the grade students achieve, and the likelihood of participant students achieving an A or A*.
