OUR MISSION

Nature and science are explained with maths. The workings of society, technology, finance and industry are defined by maths. Mastering maths enlightens understanding and unlocks our potential to thrive.

But many of us do not have the means nor the opportunity to learn and become proficient. That’s where MEI can help.

We are committed to improving the lives of everyone through maths education.

We provide the resources, guidance and inspiration to teachers and students, whether at school, at university or in work, to succeed in maths at every level.

Why? Because maths matters!

Our Values

The values that drive everything we do

Equity

We believe that no one’s background or educational circumstances should be a barrier to developing numeracy and mathematical proficiency or achieving excellence in the subject. We strive to address this in the work we do.

Credibility

We are maths education experts with extensive experience as educators. We apply this to bring clarity, insight and innovation to shape the best possible maths learning experiences for all.

Commitment

Our commitment to maths education is unrivalled. We work with passion and enthusiasm and are determined to make a positive impact through every aspect of our work.

Service

We want schools, colleges and teachers of maths to receive the best possible professional support and resources. We listen and work supportively with educators to meet their needs.

OUR PRIORITIES

We focus particular effort on four priorities to improve fairness in maths education and maximise our impact on young people’s lives

Closing the disadvantage gap

We work with schools and colleges to build strong mathematical foundations for all, enabling students from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve success and reach the highest standards in maths.

Fostering positive attitudes and confidence

We work to make maths teaching rigorous, relatable and relevant, enriching teaching and encouraging students, particularly girls, to progress in the subject.

Preparing students for the future

We work to ensure that young people have the skills and knowledge they need to become informed citizens and thrive in the future economy, scaling-up Core Maths and teaching the maths of AI and maths technology.

Improving second chances

We work to transform outcomes for students who fail to achieve GCSE maths at age 16, developing the FE teacher workforce, introducing innovative curriculum solutions, and enhancing students’ experience of maths.
