AMSP Programme Overview

The Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (AMSP) aims to increase participation in Core Maths, AS/A level Mathematics and AS/A level Further Mathematics and to improve the teaching of these qualifications.

Through our ongoing leadership and delivery of this major DfE-funded programme, we’re making it possible for more students to benefit from a level 3 maths education, regardless of their location, gender, ethnicity, or background.

About the programme

Funding and Management

The AMSP is funded through a Department for Education (DfE) contract awarded to MEI after a competitive tendering process.

Collaboration with Other Programmes

The AMSP collaborates closely with two other DfE-funded initiatives: the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) and the Maths Hubs. Together, these programmes provide comprehensive support for maths teachers in England to benefit students.

Evolution and Expansion

The AMSP originated from an early 2000s MEI initiative to support the uptake of AS/A level Further Mathematics. Over the years, it has expanded to include support for Core Maths and AS/A level Mathematics. This growth highlights how a small pilot project can evolve into a significant national programme impacting maths education.
