For those continuing maths beyond GCSE there are a number of options including A level Mathematics, A level Further Mathematics, and vocational alternatives like Core Maths.
A levels provide a deeper theoretical understanding, while Core Maths is designed for students who want to develop practical mathematical skills without taking a full A level. Additionally, students taking T levels or certain BTECs may study applied maths as part of their course.

A level Mathematics
Englands Qualifications
All of the specifications for AS and A level Mathematics followed by state schools in England cover the same content, which has been defined by the government. These specifications are:
MEI has produced some suggested schemes of work for teaching AS and A level Mathematics, which are suitable for all the above specifications.
Wales Qualifications
Wales offers the WJCE AS/A Level Mathematics qualification to students at post-16.
Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland offers the CCEA AS/A Level Mathematics qualification to students at post-16.

Core Maths
Core Maths is an umbrella term for a specific type of level 3 maths qualification.
These qualifications are only currently available in England and are equal in size to an AS level qualification and are graded A-E. They have the same UCAS tariff points as an AS level qualification, and they’re included in the government’s 16-19 performance tables and the TechBacc performance measure.

The subject content of the specifications for AS and A level Further Mathematics followed by state schools in England has been defined by the government.
Half of it is mandatory and is the same for all specifications. The remaining content varies between specifications. The assessment structure also varies between specifications.
