Maths Progression Programme is underway

Posted on in News

After several months of preparation, the Maths Progression Programme (MPP) supporting secondary schools in Birmingham started in September 2024. MEI is working with nine secondary schools in Birmingham on this five-year programme, which aims to improve maths attainment of disadvantaged students with the potential to achieve the highest grades in GCSE Mathematics. While encouraging more students to progress on to further study in mathematics. The MPP is one of four programmes funded by the Maths Excellence Fund.

The Maths Progression Lead (MPL) from each school came together at the start of October for an in-person induction day led by the MEI team. Working with MEI, the MPLs are developing intervention plans for target students, combining additional curriculum support, enrichment and mentoring to build confidence and raise aspirations.

Jo Sibley, MPP Schools Lead, commented:

The induction day with our fantastic MPL team was a real inspiration. We are so excited to see the development of this valuable, research-informed project and to support our MPLs in building strategies for lasting positive change for pupils whose futures will change for the better.

More information about the MPP can be found on the Maths Progression Programme on our website.
