Welcome to the season premiere of Digging for the Why?
In this episode, we introduce your hosts, Andy Lumley and Alison Hopper. Both Andy and Alison have worked for MEI for many years and are passionate about mathematics.
This season of the podcast is intended for Year 5-8 maths teachers and emphasises the importance of continuity in mathematics education. Throughout each episode, we’ll also explore the significance of understanding the “why” behind the lessons we teach. This episode sets the stage for future discussions on teaching practices and mathematical exploration.
Meet your hosts
Alison Hopper
Primary Maths Specialist at MEI, experienced KS2 teacher, lecturer, and maths enthusiast. Alison has a particular focus on the transition from KS2 to KS3 and is fascinated by how children make sense of maths.
Andy Lumley
Head of Learning Technology at MEI, former teacher with 20 years of experience in state-run and independent schools. Andy is passionate about making maths fun and inspiring more young people to study maths further.
