Year 6 Get Calculating! lesson plan – Construction site

A lesson for Year 6 pupils to encourage appropriate and effective use of rulers, protractors and compasses whilst also exploring and reasoning about mathematics.

The activities can be used individually or as a whole lesson. A PowerPoint to support the activities is also available.

  • Part 1 focuses on the use of a protractor.
  • Part 2 focuses on the use of a pair of compasses.
  • Part 3 brings together the ideas and skills introduced in Parts 1 and 2 and makes use of the calculator to support the calculations needed to work out the sizes of the angles to be measured.
