Overview

MEI works closely with universities and Initial Teacher Training (ITT) providers to enhance maths education and widen participation in higher education.

Whether you’re supporting undergraduate STEM students, training future teachers, or developing outreach programmes, MEI offers tailored support and high-quality resources.

Explore what we have to offer, including:

  • Integral for Higher Education and ITT Providers
  • University Outreach Projects
  • Partnership Projects in Action

We’d love to hear from you if you’re interested in working with MEI to develop a maths support programme or outreach initiative.

Integral for Higher Education

MEI provide undergraduate STEM students with access to revision material for A level Mathematics and Further Pure Mathematics to help with their degree study.

Many undergraduate STEM degrees depend on a solid grasp of A level Mathematics. MEI’s Integral for Higher Education provides high-quality revision and learning resources designed to bridge that gap.

Students can revisit key A level and Further Pure topics, or explore new ones, building confidence and deeper understanding. Materials are mobile-friendly and accessible anytime, with topics broken down into manageable sections. Each begins with a self-marking diagnostic test and ends with a summative quiz to track progress.

Developing University Outreach Projects

MEI works with university partners to develop outreach projects that encourage students from areas with traditionally low participation in higher education to have the confidence to apply for an undergraduate degree.

Working with Imperial College London and the University of Manchester

In 2017, MEI partnered with Imperial College London to create the mAths* Project. Designed for high-achieving students in state-funded schools, the programme helps them meet the A* grade requirement for top universities.

MEI, working with Imperial College’s Mathematics department and Digital Learning Hub designed four MOOCs containing videos, interactive exercises and assessments. These courses were backed up with support from a mentoring team of undergraduates from a variety of STEM courses and two face-to-face masterclasses.

Since it has started, the course has expanded and there is now a Further mA*ths online course too.

In 2023, Manchester University adopted the programme.

The programme is now funded by The Hg Foundation, and there are plans for the programme to be extended to other UK universities.

Working with University College London

In 2020, UCL’s Widening Participation department asked MEI to help support Year 10 students struggling with GCSE Maths. The result to this request was UCL Horizons—an online programme combining ten interactive maths modules with personalised support from 50 Student Ambassadors.

In 2024, MEI developed UCL Accelerate, a new in-school tutoring scheme to support students’ maths skills and confidence. Over a ten weeks period, trained UCL tutors supported small groups of students in four key GCSE topics. Graduates of the programme continue to receive online mentoring on A level choices, study tips, and university applications through to Year 13.
