The number of A level maths students has increased again this summer

Posted on in News

Data on provisional exam entries from Ofqual shows that the number of students taking A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics has increased again this summer, following a large increase in 2024.

Overall A level entries have decreased slightly in Summer 2025 after an increase in Summer 2024. However Further Mathematics has again seen the largest percentage increase in any subject, this time with entries increasing by 7.5% since 2024. Entries for A level Mathematics have also increased by 4.5% to 105,755, with Mathematics continuing to be the most popular A level subject.

Numbers taking AS Further Mathematics have also increased again, this time by 5.3% to 5,370, making Mathematics and Further Mathematics the two most popular subjects at AS.

These increases reflect the dedication and hard work of students and teachers and a growing recognition of the importance of maths to young people’s futures. The Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (AMSP) provides a range of resources and support for schools to increase progression to Level 3 maths (AS/A level or equivalent).

We wish all students the very best in their results this summer.
