COURSE OVERVIEW

The Teaching Functional Skills Maths course is designed for teachers delivering Functional Skills maths in post-16 settings.

Led by experienced practitioners, it will enhance your subject knowledge and deepen your understanding of the pedagogy that underpins successful delivery.

You will explore the expectations for Functional Skills maths, including content requirements, and examine effective approaches for developing number sense, reasoning, fluency, and problem-solving. The course offers opportunities to reflect on and apply practical strategies for planning and delivering engaging lessons, stretching and supporting learners, and meeting the varied needs of students in diverse Further Education classrooms.

Each session will be followed by a set of modules to complete before the next session. This allows you time to apply ideas between sessions while maintaining regular contact with your peers and tutor.

9 Sessions – 3 online sessions and 6 on-demand modules

Three online sessions via Zoom, six on-demand modules via MEI’s learning platform, Integral.

The Further Education Maths CPD programme is fully funded for eligible practitioners

Eligibility for the UK Government‑funded Further Education Maths CPD programme is restricted to practitioners employed in statutory Further Education settings in England who teach or lead on maths as their main subject to 16–19‑year‑old students covered by the maths and English Condition of Funding.
