Maths Week England returns this November, bringing together schools, teachers and students from across the country to celebrate and enjoy mathematics.
Running from 15 to 21 November 2026, Maths Week England is a free, national celebration of maths, designed to make the subject accessible, engaging and enjoyable for people of all backgrounds. The week provides schools and other groups with a wide range of free activities and resources, helping create memorable mathematical experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
To support this year’s celebrations, MEI has developed a new resource for students studying Higher Tier GCSE Mathematics. Created by Cath Moore, the Higher Tier GCSE Maths Week England Quiz offers an engaging way for students to tackle mathematical challenges while developing their reasoning and problem-solving skills. The quiz is specifically designed for Higher Tier GCSE students and focuses on reasoning and problem solving rather than routine calculations.
The quiz contains ten questions covering a range of mathematical topics. Teachers can use it as a whole-class activity, a team competition or a collaborative problem-solving challenge. Answers are included, and questions can be selected individually to suit the topics students have already covered.
Designed to be flexible and easy to use, the quiz requires only plain paper and can be adapted to suit different classroom contexts. It is intended as a team-based activity, with opportunities for students to discuss ideas, compare strategies and work together to solve problems, although teachers can organise and deliver it in whatever way best suits their classes.
Whether used as part of a dedicated Maths Week England event or within a normal lesson, the quiz provides a fun opportunity for students to experience mathematics in a different way while developing key GCSE skills!
