Overview

At MEI, we know that moving through different stages of maths education can feel challenging for students and their families.

We provide guidance and resources to support smooth transitions at key points:

  • From primary to secondary maths – helping students build confidence and bridge gaps as they move into new ways of learning.

  • University admissions tests – offering advice and preparation strategies to support success in assessments such as STEP, MAT, and TMUA.

  • From KS4 to post-16 Level 3 maths – ensuring students are ready for the demands of A level Mathematics, Core Maths, or other advanced courses.

Our aim is to help every student develop the skills, understanding, and confidence they need to thrive in their next stage of mathematical learning.

Primary

Transition from Primary Mathematics to Secondary Mathematics

Each year, to support students who are transitioning from primary to secondary maths, we run Calculator Crunch.

Calculator Crunch is not just for teachers to use within classrooms, but a great resource for parents and carers to use the challenging activities with their children at home. This fun series of challenges helps children practise key maths skills and build confidence using calculators, preparing them for secondary school maths.
