Professional development for Year 12 and 13 A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics teachers created with Imperial College London

We are happy to announce that our free teachers’ mA*ths and Further mA*ths PD courses are back for 2024. These courses have been created in partnership with Imperial College London.

These exciting professional development courses are designed to prepare you to help your high-attaining students achieve an A* in A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Open to all teachers of A level maths subjects from state-funded schools and colleges, these courses are perfect if you want to explore in-depth aspects of maths content and pedagogy.

Imperial College London mA*th

You will get the opportunity to attend a live masterclass in all of the CPD courses. The courses are designed to complement Imperial College London’s student mA*ths and Further mA*ths programmes; find out more by visiting Imperial’s website here.

About the courses

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) courses in the top Russell Group universities often ask for an A* in A Level Mathematics and sometimes Further Mathematics. This may lead to the following questions:

  • What is the best way to identify “A* potential” in students studying these subjects?
  • What can you do to support students aiming for the top grades?
  • Are there other resources for self-study and extension you could point students to?

If you’re a teacher of A Level Mathematics or Further Mathematics in a state-funded school, particularly if some of your students are working with social disadvantage, our courses will help you support them to achieve their very best.

You are welcome to apply for multiple courses if you feel it would benefit your professional development.

About the programme

The programme consists of a mix of on-demand learning, including online mentoring and face-to-face masterclasses at Imperial College London.

In each programme, there’s a Year 12 and a Year 13 section for each of mA*ths and Further mA*ths.

To apply for the On-Demand part of the programme, you will be redirected to the AMSP website to sign up for your chosen course.

Each course will have a Year 12 section and a Year 13, you can sign up to do as many of the courses as you wish.

Applications for courses are open.

In-Person Masterclass

We also have one-day, in-person masterclass events which will take place at Imperial College London on the following dates:

  • Further mA*ths masterclass: Friday 28th June 2024
  • mA*ths masterclass: Saturday 13th July 2024

To apply for the face-to-face part of the programme, you will be redirected to the Imperial College London website to sign up.

The content differs between the courses and corresponds to the applicable subject and year group. You may apply for multiple courses if you feel it would be beneficial for your development. The in-person masterclasses at Imperial College London will complement the online course content and will be run with MEI

This offer is only available to teachers from state-funded schools and colleges.
