Programme Overview

In partnership with Imperial College London, we have developed professional development for Year 12 and 13 A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics teachers.

These exciting professional development courses are designed to prepare you to help your high-attaining students achieve an A* in A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics.

Explore in-depth aspects of maths content and pedagogy with the opportunity to attend a live masterclass as well as access on-demand modules via the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (AMSP).

The courses are designed to complement Imperial College London’s student mA*ths and Further mA*ths programmes; find out more by visiting Imperial’s website here.

Project Details

Open to all teachers of A level maths subjects from state-funded schools and colleges

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) courses in the top Russell Group universities often ask for an A* in A level Mathematics and sometimes Further Mathematics. This may lead to the following questions:

What is the best way to identify “A* potential” in students studying these subjects?

What can you do to support students aiming for the top grades?

Are there other resources for self-study and extension you could point students to?

If you’re a teacher of A Level Mathematics or Further Mathematics in a state-funded school, particularly if some of your students are working with social disadvantage, our courses will help you support them to achieve their very best.

How it works

The project consists of a mix of on-demand learning and face-to-face masterclasses at Imperial College London.

In each programme, there’s a Year 12 and a Year 13 section for each of mA*ths and Further mA*ths.

In-Person Masterclass

You will attend an in-person masterclass at Imperial College London.

The day will comprise of sessions which are common to all teachers of A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, as well as some optionality to focus on Year 12 maths, Year 13 maths or further maths.

On-Demand Learning

Access to on-demand learning via the AMSP is to be completed before the masterclass to support your learning.

Each on-demand course comprises an AS level section and an A level section. You may sign up for as many of the four on-demand sections as you like.
