Regular Beauty: Sona Drawings

Introduce your students to sona drawings through telling a traditional Cokwe story. A classroom resource exploring the geometrical patterns created by the Cokwe people of Angola.

This activity could be used in a maths club, an enrichment lesson or as a form time activity.

Regular Beauty: Sonia drawings will complement students’ work in considering the highest common factors and symmetry. However, it is our view that its primary value is for allowing students to see and appreciate maths from other cultures and might therefore be used as a standalone project. This could be combined with our Regular Beauty: Islamic Designs resource.
