Visualising the Climate Crisis

These resources highlight the environmental impact of fast fashion with a focus on the annual purchase of a Christmas jumper.

Many schools have found these to be a great end of Autumn term activity.

“The students here have really enjoyed it and it has been truly eye-opening”

The resources

There are four different versions of the resource. Each comes with a presentation, teacher notes and a worksheet.

At the end of the activity students are encouraged to create their own hand-drawn data visualisation to communicate their findings.

  • A – Aimed at Year 5-8 Accessible to all levels.
  • B – Aimed at GCSE Resit, Functional skills and Foundation GCSE Accessible to all levels.
  • C – Aimed at Years 8-11 Involves estimating, volumes and more unit conversions.
  • D – Aimed at Years 9-13 Similar to C but with less structure.

If your students completed version C or D of the activities, then you might want to get them to compare their methods with those of University of Oxford tutor, Tom Crawford with the video listed below.

These resources were designed as part of the AMSP’s support for Maths Week England and included a data visualisation competition. Explore the winning entries here.
