Year 7 Get Calculating! lesson plan – Angle poise

This is a lesson to support Year 7 students in becoming more familiar with some key features of calculators and encourage appropriate and effective use.

There is a PowerPoint to support the lesson.

The lesson contains a series of activities which broaden the range of functions used on the calculator and involve different aspects of mathematical reasoning around the topic of angles. Activities include reasoning about the sum of internal angles in triangles and quadrilaterals and working out missing angles in shapes, on a straight line and around a point. Given the range of activities, the lesson can be used as it is to review and deepen understanding of angles or used in parts to supplement lessons on the particular aspects of angles covered.
