Year 7 Get Calculating! lesson plan – Area and perimeter

This is a lesson to support Year 7 students in becoming more familiar with some key features of calculators and to encourage appropriate and effective use.

The activities can be used in isolation or across several lessons. A PowerPoint to support the activities is also available.

The lesson contains a series of activities which focus on the basic functions of the scientific calculator. It provides students with opportunities to calculate with decimals, interpret the display, consider rounding and to focus on the inverse operations relating to the topic of area and perimeter.
