*Updated for 2024* Why study maths? is a presentation for students and parents/carers, which lasts approximately 30 minutes, about the importance of studying maths post-GCSE. It outlines the post-16 and post-18 options available and provides compelling reasons for choosing to take an advanced maths qualification.
This is the perfect resource to use at your school’s open day/evening.
The presentation is aimed at Year 11 students and their families, but much of the content is also suitable for a wider audience. It is fully editable, in fact you’re encouraged to edit the presentation so that it suits the needs of your school!
As well as the usual comprehensive set of teacher notes, containing background information and links to relevant research and data, we have also included a much shorter set of notes. Designed for the presenter to have with them while presenting, they contain simple key points to mention for each slide. We have included a new section on what university maths degrees are like and how accessible they are to students with a variety of grades; and an explanation of the different types of offers that universities can make.
