In 2012 the Further Mathematics Support Programme launched a national series of free, two day CPD events focusing on developing problem solving skills and providing extension and enrichment for Key Stage 4 students working towards the Higher Tier GCSE (or equivalent). In addition to the two day courses, several one day courses which focus on the new content in Higher 9-1 GCSE have been developed.
Teachers have the chance to try out a wide range of new materials targeted specifically at Higher Tier GCSE students. The resources aim to provide students and teachers with activities and tasks designed to consolidate understanding of some of the more challenging topics, to promote a deeper understanding of them and also to encourage students to recognise the links between and within topics. There are opportunities to reflect on provision and pedagogy and to consider different ways in which individuals and groups can be appropriately challenged.
There is a small amount of funding to enable teachers to attend. Places on these courses are limited.
