A level Mathematics

All of the specifications for AS and A level Mathematics followed by state schools in England cover the same content, which has been defined by the government. These specifications are:

There are three overarching themes:

  • Mathematical argument, language and proof
  • Mathematical problem-solving
  • Mathematical modelling

There’s also a requirement for the use of technology to permeate teaching and learning.

Most schools and colleges in Wales follow the WJEC specification and most of those in Northern Ireland follow the CCEA specification.

Independent and international schools and colleges may use other specifications, such as Cambridge InternationalEdexcel International and Oxford AQA.
