Supporting STEP/AEA

Professional development is available for teachers involved in helping students prepare for Sixth Term Entrance Paper (STEP) or Advanced Extension Award (AEA) mathematics examinations. These CPD events are offered through the Further Mathematics Support Programme (FMSP), managed by MEI.

Aims

  • Provide teachers with an opportunity to think about, discuss and hear others’ experiences of supporting students to develop their problem-solving skills
  • Give teachers time to work on problems themselves in order to gain insight into the challenges of supporting students to develop these skills
  • Give information about the STEP and AEA examinations
  • Introduce teachers to useful resources to use with students and advice on how to set up problem-solving support in their own school/college

Participants

The focus for this professional development will be the STEP and AEA mathematics examinations but the courses will include materials suitable for use in general classes. These courses will also be of interest to any teachers who would like to introduce KS5 students to deeper mathematical problem-solving skills.
