MEI Conference 2025: LMS bursaries
The conference for all 11-19 maths teachers

The London Mathematical Society (LMS) has generously awarded MEI a grant to offer four bursaries of up to £400 to support teachers from minority ethnic backgrounds to attend the MEI Conference 2025.
It’s free to apply; you just need to complete and submit this application form by noon on Friday, 25 April 2025.
Terms and Conditions
What can the bursary be used for? The bursary can be used towards the cost of your conference fees and/or for travel and subsistence.
For example, if you attend the conference on Friday only, arrive on Thursday for dinner, and bed and breakfast on Thursday night, the conference fees would cost £290. This will leave you with up to £111 to claim towards travel and subsistence.
Eligibility: To support our aim to improve social equity through access to high-quality maths education, we are offering bursaries of up to £400 to teachers from underrepresented groups to encourage and enable their attendance at the MEI conference. Minority ethnic people are underrepresented in the teaching profession, particularly in leadership positions (DFE, 2020). Therefore, these bursaries are for teachers from a minority ethnic background who are aspiring to subject or curriculum leadership. You must also, at the time you apply, be a maths teacher employed by a UK state-funded secondary school or college.
Applying: Applications are open. To apply, you must complete and submit this application form by noon on Friday 25 April. There is no application fee. Only one application per individual will be accepted.
Award of bursary: The bursaries will be awarded randomly by MEI. Successful applicants will be notified by email by Friday 2 May 2025. Bursaries will be paid after the conference to the payee nominated when your conference booking was made (i.e. you or your school/college).
Accepting the offer: To accept an offer of a bursary, you must provide MEI with a letter from your school/college confirming your employment. You must also submit your conference booking form by Monday 3rd June 2024. Places are not transferable. There is no cash alternative. If you cancel your conference booking, you will not receive the bursary.
Claiming the bursary
Bursary claims must be submitted between 7 July and 25 July 2025 by emailing [email protected].
Please include a paragraph of 150-200 words on how you benefitted from attending the MEI Conference so that we can provide the LMS with feedback on how their grant has been used to support maths teachers’ professional development.
Bursaries will be paid to the payee nominated when your conference booking was made (i.e. you or your school/college).
If you wish any part of your bursary to be used for travel and subsistence expenses, you must submit receipts for the items you wish to claim.
