Overview

We are running an online course to prepare students for the TMUA (Test of Mathematics for University Admission), the mathematical admissions test used by the University of Cambridge for undergraduate admissions in Computer Science and Economics and by Imperial College for undergraduate admissions in the Department of Mathematics, the Department of Computing and BSc in Economics, Finance and Data Science. Other Universities may give a reduced offer to students who have achieved a good score in the TMUA. The University of Warwick include the TMUA in some of their offers.

The TMUA examination consists of two parts, Applications of Mathematical Knowledge and Mathematical Reasoning. Each part consists of 20 multiple choice questions.

This course consists of seven one-hour online sessions which will take place in September and October. Sessions will commence the week beginning the 1st September 2025.

Students are also welcome to enrol on our similar course for the MAT (Mathematics Admissions Test), but there is no obligation to attend both courses.

Aims

  • To introduce mathematical problems at the difficulty level of the TMUA.
  • To develop students' problem-solving skills so they have confidence in applying for universities that require the TMUA or take it into consideration.
  • To provide support for students preparing for the TMUA.

Who will benefit from attending?

Students currently in Year 12, who will be going into Year 13 in September 2025.

Students who are anticipating sitting the TMUA in Autumn 2025.

Please note: Those looking to sit the exam in January 2026 should see our other event instead.

Materials and equipment

All that is needed to participate in the sessions is a computer with a broadband internet connection. No further equipment is needed – communication with the course tutor during the live sessions is via the instant chat feature of the virtual classroom in which the sessions take place.

Other information

We advise to please apply as soon as is possible. The Online TMUA course is very popular and we reserve the right to close applications when our limit is exceeded.
