Overview

MEI’s Individual Professional Development (IPD) courses enable self-paced learning, which means that you can continue your professional development at your own pace and at times that suit you.

Places on the course are fully funded by the Department for Education as part of our FE Maths CPD programme. This means that the course is free to teachers within FE settings in England who enrol students under the government’s Condition of Funding Policy.

Excellence in the teaching and learning of maths is vital to the aims and aspirations of further education and work-based learning. However, the diverse nature of the curricula, which can include Functional Skills, resit GCSE, Core Maths, and A level, and the plethora of new initiatives present a challenge for anyone co-ordinating this activity.

Leaders of Maths in Further Education has been developed to support new or aspiring Maths Leads who wish to reflect upon this demanding role and develop strong leadership skills; including the ability to plan effectively, inspire teachers, lead improvement, and meet a wide range of learners’ needs, which are all key to ensuring operational and strategic success.

Aims

  • To evaluate your leadership style and the impact it has on the teaching of mathematics in your college
  • To reflect upon your personal vision of effective mathematics teaching and learning
  • To employ effective leadership strategies in order to secure improvement in the teaching, learning and assessment of mathematics

Who will benefit from attending?
