Overview

Proportion is a key concept in mathematics. It reaches across many topics and understanding proportion is vital to providing secure mathematical knowledge and demonstrating high achievement. This one day course looks at some of these different topics with strategies for you to use in the classroom to develop the skills of your students.

  • To provide support in developing your professional practice and that of departmental colleagues.

Who will benefit from attending?

Teachers who wish to improve their teaching of GCSE maths and/or the skills of their students.

Content

Proportion underpins many aspects of the GCSE curriculum. 

Effective Teaching in the GCSE classroom considers different aspects of proportion and strategies for embedding understanding within the curriculum with the objective of increasing the number of students that choose to study maths post-16. Delegates will be provided with course materials electronically after attendance on the day.

Eligibility

This course is free for delegates from English state-funded schools, colleges and academies. Teachers from independent schools and non-English schools may apply, but places will only be granted if there is availability.

For teachers working at a school or college located in a TSMA, their school or college will receive £200 per teacher up to a maximum of £400. Please see the AMSP subsidies page for further details.

Subsidies are granted on confirmation by the course leader that a teacher has attended the course, and is subject to the school providing the financial information required for the AMSP to make the payment.
