We’re thrilled to announce that after the success of this year’s competition, MEI’s Further Education Maths Challenge will be returning for the 2022/23 academic year.
The competition is for post-16 students who are working towards gaining a Functional Skills maths qualification or improving their GCSE Mathematics grade.
Colleges facilitate the competition for their students, using questions, materials and training provided by MEI. Students can also take part if their college or school is signed up with a host college that has volunteered to deliver the challenge.
This year’s event saw 11 regional centres, 50 colleges and over 16000 students take part in the challenge. There were teams participating all over England – from Weston-Super-Mare in the South West to Gateshead in the North East. It was fantastic to see so many GCSE resit students and Functional Maths students engaged and motivated by the challenge. The competition culminated in regional finals in colleges, at football stadiums and in London, where 24 teams competed at the University of East London in a huge lecture theatre.
We’re hoping that next year’s competition will be even bigger and better!
