More students are taking maths A levels

Posted on in News

Data on provisional exam entries from Ofqual shows that the number of students taking A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics has increased this summer.

Most A levels have an increased entry in Summer 2024 due to a slightly larger cohort but Further Mathematics numbers have increased by nearly 20% – the largest percentage increase from 2023 in any subject! Numbers taking A level Mathematics have increased by over 11% to 101,230. Mathematics continues to be the most popular A level subject.

Numbers taking AS Further Mathematics have also increased by nearly 10%, to 5100, making Further Mathematics one of the most popular subjects at AS.

MEI welcomes the increase in numbers of students choosing to continue their maths studies beyond GCSE and wishes them all the best in their exams this summer.
