Securing key skills in Number

Posted on in News

MEI has produced a set of free intervention materials for students in KS2-5, designed to be used in one-to-one support or with small groups. The activities are designed to be interactive and to promote mathematical talk between students or between student and teacher.

Securing key skills in Number’ contains six units:

  • Place value
  • Measures
  • 2D Shape
  • Fractions, decimals and percentages
  • Mental calculations
  • Representing problems

The units address key skills in number (and 2D shape), aiming to secure concepts that underpin the curriculum from KS2 – 5.

Each unit includes printable resources for a sequence of activities involving loop/follow me games, sets of cards to match, and games to be played in pairs. There’s also a guide for the person leading the intervention, with detailed notes on each of the activities.
