Widening participation
Gaining good maths qualifications can change young people’s lives. This is why we work with many universities to create new opportunities for young people to develop their interest in maths, and encourage them to continue to study maths beyond GCSE.
Our support ranges from improving students’ attainment in GCSE Mathematics – a requirement for most degree courses – to preparing students for top-end maths admissions tests.
We’re particularly keen to support and encourage disadvantaged students to apply for, and be accepted onto, degree-level courses.
Our partnerships with more than 50 universities across England are essential for delivering the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (AMSP). Most of the AMSP’s 40+ Area Co-ordinators are employed by their local university, and we often hold AMSP student events on university campuses. Attending one of these can be a life-changing experience for some students. It may be the first time they’ve ever visited a university, and it can help to raise their aspirations and open their eyes to the possibility of applying for a degree course.
